News: Jewel of the Adriatic remains unspoiled

The Dubrovnik Riviera remains exquisitely unspoiled according to new data compiled by property consultants Colliers International Southeast Europe...

The research concluded that fewer than fifty residential buildings, or less than 500 apartments, had been constructed on the mainland in the entire region, Dubrovnik-Neretva County, in the last five years.

The lack of new construction can be explained by local opposition to over-development, a severe shortage of available land for construction, and delays in planning procedures and implementing new zoning.

Philip Bay, Regional Director of Colliers International Southeast Europe enthused:

“This is wonderful news for the Dubrovnik Riviera. It means that the jewel of the Adriatic is not being ruined by overbuilding, a fate that so many other resorts across the Mediterranean have suffered.”

A whole range of international celebrities have recently been spotted in Dubrovnik, including Tom Cruise, Steven Spielberg, Michael Douglas and Roger Moore.

Tomislav Perović, Managing Director of Colliers Croatia commented

Dubrovnik has become an elite destination that can be compared with the finest in the world. But prices there are still much lower than in comparable resorts internationally. With prices set to go up hugely when Croatia joins the European Union in several years’ time, now is a great time to invest.”
