Calabria is a great place to invest, according to one expert...

If you diligently assess the top of the statistics to locate you ideal property investment then Calabria in Italy will most definitely be on your short list. In 2006 Italy was ranked 5th top world tourist destination by the World Tourism Organisation with 41.4 million visitors. And this year a prominent figure in overseas property has given Calabria in southern Italy the thumbs up for buyers...

Amanda Lamb, the face of A Place in the Sun spoke to Female First about her overseas bolt-hole recommendations commenting, “for me personally I think southern Italy is a good place; places like Calabria and Apulia – the heal and boot of Italy” From someone who has travelled the world helping Brits find their dream destination, it is an impressive statement for this small and relatively untouched region.

High grade properties

Tam Stanley, Director of Property Growth International summed it up recently by commenting: “the market in Italy and in particular in Calabria is flourishing as more people seek to invest in established markets where there is affordable opportunity and long term potential for strong profitability.

“Where these pockets of opportunity exist, prices are rapidly rising - and in our experience at Property Growth International, so is the level of interest among our client base who are seeking the best located, highest grade properties in these locations which have the strongest appeal for maximum rental demand.”

The allure of Calabria has been further asserted by what is being commonly known as ‘the Ryanair effect’. Thanks to the expansion and promotion of the region’s two airports, the arrival of cheap flight operators from across the UK and the European mainland and the sustained and concerted efforts of local government to improve the overall infrastructure, accessibility and desirability of Calabria, the destination has made it to the top of the investors’ wish lists!
