News: Bank of England keeps interest rates on hold

Fri, 08 Jun 12

The Bank of England yesterday held interest rates at their historic low of 0.5%.

Its Monetary Policy Committee also announced no expansion to its quantitative easing programme.

Interest rates have now been kept at their historic low for more than three years and this week's decision comes despite recent suggestions from the International Monetary Fund that the BoE should consider lowering rates even more to help it overcome the debt crisis engulfing the euro zone.
