House prices in Spain's Costa Azahar are benefiting from an influx of cheap flights...

Known as the ‘Orange Blossom coast’, the Costa Azahar is has been experiencing the benefits of the rise in low-cost airline flights. Castellon province is currently witnessing the building of a new airport which will increase access to the Costa Azahar region and although a date for completion has not yet been finalised, house prices in the area are already moving in the right direction.

House prices were at a base of €169,000 for the Castellon province in Q3 2005, rising to the most recent figure of €246,000 in Q1 2008. A spokesperson for Kyero.com, commented: “It could be said that this increase of 46% is in line with the notion of the ‘Ryanair Effect’ and that in anticipation of the new airport, more people are looking to invest in the area with this resulting in the Castellon hike in property prices”.

“This seemingly steady increase is hugely resonant when set against the average Spanish house price decrease of 4.2% during the same period and therefore shows the distinct outcome of the ‘Ryanair Effect’ and its influence on the property market and the Spanish Costas in particular. And with increasingly more low-budget flights accessing this area, this property price boom is only set to grow further".
