News: London-Cyprus air links improved

Mon, 16 Apr 07

In a move that will aid the Cyprus property market, Turkish airline SunExpress has announced that it will be flying to the north of the island from this summer...

CyprusVenture.com reports that the low-cost carrier will begin flying from Stansted to Izmir in Turkey before connecting to Ercan in North Cyprus, to serve the many British tourists planning to travel to the region this holiday season, TravelMole reports.

Services are expected to commence on a twice-weekly basis, with SunExpress, which is a joint venture between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines, offering connections on Tuesdays and Saturdays from April 28th.

The Cyprus property market will not be the only sector to benefit as a result of increased access from this operator in 2007, as earlier this year it began twice-weekly flights from Stansted to Antalya in Turkey.

Michael Buck, commercial director of SunExpress, commented:

"With summer just around the corner we feel it is the right time to expand our activities in the UK and launch these two additional routes from London Stansted to Izmir and Ercan."

Mr Buck also commented on the airline's new Antalya service, saying it has been "delighted" with the response to the route from both the travel trade and passengers.
