News: Knight Frank picks Rightmove over Zoopla

Mon, 15 Dec 14

The new portal, owned by Agents’ Mutual, was founded by Knight Frank and a group of other estate agents last year, with the aim of disrupting the perceived duopoly of Rightmove and Zoopla in the UK property industry. OnTheMarket, which launches in January 2015, will require any members to list properties on only one other portal, which will force them to choose between Rightmove and Zoopla - thus ensuring, theoretically, that OnTheMarket will accrue the lion’s share of UK listings, while the two rival portals will only have incomplete databases.

Now, Knight Frank has revealed that it has made its choice for the "one other portal".

Noel Flint, partner at Knight Frank, told the press: “Knight Frank has decided to continue utilising Rightmove in addition to OnTheMarket, the new property portal, which launches at the end of January.

“After consideration of the data available to us, we noted that Rightmove generates considerably more referrals to our website than its sole rival in the existing market, Zoopla.

“Feedback from our agents across the country also confirmed that Rightmove was the best choice available to us at this time and, most importantly, the best decision for our clients."

OnTheMarket has previously announced that it will not list any properties from online estate agencies and will also not carry any third party adverts.
